China is the third largest country in terms of territory. It has an area of about 9.6 million square kilometers, which comprises about 6.5 per cent of the world total land area. China has abundant resources of tourism. It is also the world’s most populous country, which have more than twenty per cent of the world’s population. At the website of China Travel I can find the more detail about China. Including the China History, Weather and Climate, Ethnic Groups, China Religion, and Chinese Language.

China tourism has been developing rapidly since the reform and opening-up policy was adopted in late 1978. Now it has become one of the fastest-developing industries of national economy and a new economic growth point in the 21st century. China’s administrative are based on three-level system that dividing the nation into provinces, counties, and townships. At present, China has 23 provinces, 5 autonomous regions, 4 municipalities under the direct jurisdiction of the Central Government, and two special administrative regions. The Capital city is Beijing. Beijing is the nation’s political, economic, cultural and educational center as well as being the most important center in China for international trade and communications. It has been the heart and soul of politics and society throughout its long history. By the time of the Warring States Period (476 BC - 221 BC), it was serving as the capital of the Yan Kingdom. Because of its role in the life and growth of China, there is an unequalled wealth available for travelers to discover as you explore Beijing’s ancient past and enjoy its exciting 21st Century world. In 2008 when Beijing hosts the Olympic Games, Beijing will show the world something so special that everyone will be awestruck by Beijing’s latest accomplishments combined with its ancient history.

The largest city central square in the world, the solemn and respectful Tiananmen Square is not only the symbol of Beijing but also the symbol of China. The square is surrounded by a variety of significant edifices: Chinese Revolution History Museum, Mao Mausoleum, Great Hall of the People, the elegant and beautiful Tiananmen (Heavenly Peace Gate), and Qianmen (Front Gate). The daily flag ceremony at the square, performed at sunrise and sunset each day, is most exceptional and well-worth making time to view.

The magnificent Forbidden City is the world’s largest and best-preserved imperial palace complex. Surrounded by a moat that is six meters deep and a ten-meter high wall are 9,999 rooms - just one room short of the number that ancient Chinese believed represented divine perfection.

From the website of Travel China Guide, I could view clearly the map of China. And when I click on the cities selection button on that particular map, it will enter into a page that gives more detail of the city. These could contribute on my weblog, to make the link with them. Also lend me some image recourse. Meanwhile I found some country map at other website, but they are all unachievable.

Nowadays China has designated 99 cities as famous historical and cultural cities, and placed 750 cultural relics under key protection. There are also 119 national scenic and tourist resorts across the land. Nineteen Chinese scenes and sights have appeared on a UNESCO list of world natural and cultural heritages. China’s venerated history and splendid culture have besprinkle the land with cultural and treasures. Beijing, Xi’an, Nanjing, Luoyang, Kaifeng, Hangzhou and Anyang are known as the nation’s seven major ancient capitals. The Silk Road was the most important connection between the East and West. It experienced its last great era during the time of the Mongol Empire. The Silk Road is the legendary overland trade route between China and the Mediterranean. From its beginning in the magnificent ancient city of Chang’an (now Xian), the Road took traders westward into Gansu Province through Lanzhou, Tianshui, Zhangye, Jiuquan along the Hexi Corridor with its mountains and deserts where it reached Jiayuguan - the giant barrier of the Great Wall. Here at Dunhuang, the first key point along the route, it divided into separate ways through Xinjiang region via Turpan, Urumqi, Korla until reaching Kashgar, the final point in China. Trips along the Road are a feast to the eyes and it abounds with fascinating historical records and priceless relics.

Thorough the research and compare, I found the China Planner which provide by the authoritative travel service, provide me a particularly and accurately information of China destination guide. Here I also got a wonderful web page that shows a great panorama of travel attraction by the 360°virtual reality technology. It is ChinaVR Panorama Gallery.

The Chinese folklore is rich and varied. More than 40 Chinese festivals are known throughout the world. The Spring Festival is the most important festival for the Chinese people and is when all family members get together, just like Christmas in the West. All people living away from home go back, becoming the busiest time for transportation systems of about half a month from the Spring Festival. Airports, railway stations and long-distance bus stations are crowded with home returnees.

Not a month passes without a festival being observed among one ethnic group or another. The Peking Opera, Chinese acrobatics, traditional Chinese painting and calligraphy are famous in the world. But the most famous wonders are the Great wall

and Terra cotta warriors and horses.

Beijing Guide, it shows the vision of the Great wall by the 360°panoramas. And also could checkout for the other famous attractions. By searching the Internet, there is a characteristic site Islami City that have lots of travel live video provide by travelers.

The Chinese tourism industry is not only rich in resources; it has also come a long way in transportation, service, accommodation, catering and shopping facilities. Tourist facilities are being constantly improved, and so is the service. With a winsome smile the hospitable Chinese are trusted companions for those traveling in China. Now China is like in view of the foreigners with the unique charm. And people desire to witness her beauty by their eyes. However, those who haven’t the chances come to China that could only get to know about her through media. I hope I could present a vivid China to the people around world through my weblog.

Compare the different search engines
-Google, Yahoo and Baidu

With the advance development of the society and the technology, Internet now has become more and more important for people’s daily life. And the requirements needed from the users become stricter. They want it not only have a fast speed but also the materials and results from the Internet are accurate and better to be easy used. As a web surfer, I found there is a suitable Internet tools for search engine that really helpful to our life in these century.

Although all search engines serve virtually have the same purpose, they differ with regards to size and scope of their indices, special features, graphical interface, ease of use, and so on. And these Web location services have put amazing power into every user’s hands. They provide news, libraries, dictionaries, and other resources that are not just a search engine or a catalog, and some of these can be really useful. But how could be a real helpfully and usefully search engine? I think there are at least three elements to search engines that are important: information discovery & the database, the user search, and the presentation and ranking of results. To compare them, I’ve chosen three types of search engines: Google, Yahoo and BaiDu that I use them almost daily basis.

Google is a remarkable search engine in the network world, because of the vast number of web pages that are collected and the relevance of the information that those pages contain are really useful. That makes Google has become the most popular engine. And why most of people like to use the Google research, just because Google could searches more sites make it more quickly and delivering the most relevant results.

For example, I want to search “China join WTO”, just simply enter these words then the search results me approximately 514,000 results. These results displayed include the title, URL, a brief extract showing text near the search terms, the file sizes, and for many hits, a link to a cached copy of the page has a different color highlighting. I just browse them and could find lots of information. Because normally I could get the information from the initial research so I didn’t use any of Google’s special features.

Google provides results in six categories shown in the toolbar, it is include:
· Web: Web pages
· Images: Picture database
· Groups: Usenet news database
· News: Past 30 days of Web-based news sites
· Directory: A version of the Open Directory
· Froogle: Shopping and product search
· Catalog Search

Especially Google added some automatic plural searching and word stemming occurs for English words and can be turned off by using the plus sign in front of each term. However within phrases, the symbol of asterisk * may represent to match any word in that particular position. For example, to find “World Trade Organization”, when you are not sure or recognize of the second or last word, you may search by entering the word in the search “World * Organization”. As well multiple asterisks can be used. This is the way Google supports a wildcard symbol. And it does ignore frequent words, the documentation mentions terms such as ‘the’, ‘of’, ‘and’, and ‘or’.

Further more, Google offers several field searches connected with entering URLs. In the Advanced Search page, it adds several title and URL field searches. Could offers a domain limit, which can be used to limit results to those from the specified domain or it can be used to exclude results from a specified domain. Amount 35 language limit options are also available on their Language Tools page. So you can choice what you want.

In order to get more information, Yahoo always becomes the second choice for me to searching materials on the Internet. From here I would like to discuss my opinions with it.

Yahoo is another one of the most popular global Internet portals. It is not only a search engine but also a very multi-functional complex server which has an enormous hard disk website. To go to the Yahoo portal, you could find a small toolbar called search the web for the research purpose. Same as Google, Yahoo provides results in six categories shown in the table header reproduced below, it is include
· Web
· Images
· Directory
· Local
· News
· Products

The Advanced Search page offers a site limit, which can be used to limit results to those from the specified search. Just by fill in the forms in the fields we need to search. In this page, there are 37 multiple languages can be chosen in Yahoo. And it supports full Boolean searching. Searching can be nested using parentheses. For example, flood will match on ‘flood’ as well as ‘flooded’. Yahoo also can search a wildcard word within a phrase. Instead of using an asterisk * within a phrase search to match any word in that position, you have to use a stop word. So that they are much same as Google, Yahoo also supports a wildcard symbol.

Sometimes, research on the Internet may allow me to find out more academic information to my assignment, but it won’t have the accurate information that I needed from Google and Yahoo. Meanwhile, there is still have other useful search engine, like “Ask Jeeves”. And the website were recommended by my former English teacher, my opinion show up that Ask Jeeves are more academic than previous two website. It is a unique question-answering system that allows users to ask questions in plain English, then delivers the answer and more specifically.

As a Chinese, I am an interest user of Baidu search engine. It is the world’s second largest independent and fastest growing Chinese Internet search engine, covers over 95% of Chinese netizens, with more than 80 million users. Just because it is fast in speed, and convenient for me to get the news, even more about music, flash and so on in a very first time.

Remember the first time I use Baidu is through one of my friend, she introduced me these is a very wide range search engine, which she is normally use for the music. I was really surprised for its results. It listed about 20 results per paper. And the entire links for the music download is fast speed, it has given me more choice and the source it provided is different with other music download websites. In my opinion, it is a very useful, fully classified fast search engine for all free sources. It gives my life more funs. And the most important factor is that I could able to find out more newest music and it is free as from this website! I think that is why Chinese people like to use it. Baidu makes Chinese people surfing browse the Internet a lot easier, they can get all they want through this web tool. By using software that direct delivers Chinese-language content. Baidu could read the Chinese- language characteristics better than foreign competitors. It can differentiate between two- and three-character Chinese names. This gives it an advantage over foreign search engines like Google Chinese version even Chinese Yahoo.

And the other reason for people like to choice this engine, Baidu provides services including algorithmic search, enterprise search, and pay-for-performance. When you open the website, you can see an interface which is almost the same with Google. But it also hosts a series of specialized services which include news, MP3, BBS portals, website and image search. It is guarantees sub-second response time and the best experience for users.

To conclusion, the different search engines tool have different strong points and potentials; to use them that best fits the job you need to do. One thing is obvious; some engine with the most pages in the database is not the best. You need get the most out of your engine by yourself to select search words, knowing your search engine to avoid mistakes with spelling and truncation, and using the special tools. Among these search engines, I think for the foreign language search engine, I prefer Google to Yahoo. Because for a search engine, Google portal is fuller of research purpose and the Size and the scope now is the largest, and also includes many file types. That could keep me informed with upgrade of the latest news. But Yahoo is a synthesis portal that the search engine is one of functions. So Yahoo is an assistant guide’s search engine for me. If I cannot get enough material I will try to search through Yahoo. Anyway I found that results from both website are almost the same. For Baidu, because Chinese is my first language, so a useful Chinese search engine is really important. And especially for the most of music’s downloader and I as the one as well that in this engine really contains the largest MP3 and image library in China. And it makes more fun for the daily life. Nowadays, search engines are undergoing a more profound evolution that will really improve for the purposes of researching.
